CEDAR WAXWINGS, PURPLE FINCH, GOLDFINCH AND A ROBIN

APRIL 15 2011

These guys are always in a flock like this.
They live here year round.

They are not very large or showy.
They make a high-pitched metallic sounding chirp,
which can be irritating to the ears.
When they fly in a group,
you often hear them
before looking up and seeing them
pass overhead.

 On the ground....

....pigging out on last year's apples.

Video:  Eating last year's apples.
You can hear the Cedar Waxwings' high-pitched calls,
as well as some other birds.
The other loud noises are the wind,
and also the traffic on the highway.

A robin in the vicinity, looking for something else!

Taking a break from eating.

Grooming...

June 2  2011
Back again, this time to feed on apple blossoms.
He (or she) looks quite handsome in the evening sun.

The back and tail view.

Looks like he owns the tree!

Their plumage seems to be more colourful than in April.

The goldfinches also feast on the blossoms.
A male giving himself a shake.

And a purple finch.....

.....also a male, enjoys the same treat.
